Attracted to the First Place Home Ownership Program for several reasons: more bang for my buck – great price for the square footage, lower interest rates, new home with a great warranty, lower utilities and taxes due to it being a condo, low condo fees, quick commute to work in the downtown, well known builder with a great reputation for quality work and building green – home is therefore also eligible for rebates/grants for high efficiency, home is close to public parks and program is also connected to an overall City strategy to improve livability and making better use of public space. I am more than happy to be a part of a program that engages in consultation with community members prior to the build. This creates a process where community members are provided with information about the housing development before it happens and are able to provide input into the overall design of the units. I also appreciate that younger families moving into the neighborhood and these units will breathe new life into communities with more children attending schools, joining community leagues, utilizing public spaces etc.

Kristi and Devon Rundvall saw First Place homes in Canon Ridge as a perfect fit for themselves and their three children.
After four years of renting in Edmonton’s west end, they joined a group of people who made the Canon Ridge development in the northeast Hermitage area an instant sell-out.
Today Kristi chairs the condo board that takes care of exterior upkeep and management of the 42 units.

My life was established in Millwoods prior to purchasing a home in Tawa Landing, with my daughter going to school just North of the Tawa location and myself working in the South Common area. It really appealed to me that I would be able to buy a brand new home right within an established neighborhood where I need to be, close to work and school. Plus, being able to buy a new home in an established community is such a great opportunity as all of the amenities and natural spaces are already developed.
For my price range I was looking at homes that were much older, and as a single person the thought of maintenance and renovations was intimidating. It was much easier for me to feel comfortable with the purchase of a new home.
I love so many features about my new home: the beautiful kitchen, the finishings, and the opportunity to develop the basement space in the future so that our home will be be able to grow with my daughter and I !

I fell in love with both the townhome and the benefits of the First Place Program as it was the perfect fit for me and my daughter. I was attracted to the program as it was more than just a shot in the dark; everything was designed and clearly laid out to give a guarantee that if you met the requirements you could become a home owner. The process of buying was so quick, easy, and smooth is was wonderful, and everyone went above and beyond helping me to get approved and be able to buy my home!
I feel very safe and feel a great sense of community living in an established community. You never have to worry about what will be developed down the street in the future, everything is already in place.
I absolutely love my new home and features such as 2 full bathrooms and laundry on the second floor are excellent!

Being a new immigrant to Canada, I never thought I would own a home within 6 months of being in Canada
I think [the First Place Program] has many advantages. The first thing is that you get a new house in a fully developed neighbourhood, and it is well within budget. I think it’s a great program for a first-time homebuyer who is nervous about what type of house they are buying. And, you know when the city is backing a program it is definitely a good deal and that it is for the people – it makes you feel really comfortable. You may have a million dollar home later on in the future but your first home will always be your first home, and we are really excited about our first home.

Because we are first home-time buyers there are a lot of steps involved that you don’t really think of when you’re looking for your first house or condo. The people at Rohit made it really easy and they really focused it down to the central information that someone who hasn’t bought a place before should know. They aren’t out there looking for the next big deal; they are there to help point you in the right direction.
It’s [also] a plus knowing that Tawa Landing, where I’ll be living, is all first-time homebuyers. Knowing that the area where I’ll be living is going to be taken care of, and that there is going to be a sense of community in this new area because it is all new homebuyers – people who have never owned a property before. So, you kind of have this mentality of ‘wow this is brand new’ – we’re all in the same boat.

It’s such a good deal. You get so much for your money. I couldn’t find anything as big or with as many features as this house anywhere else and for this price. So, it has definitely helped me. The features are awesome. And, you know the people are living by you are also first-time homeowners, which is nice as well – so, you’re kind of all in it together.
It’s close to the LRT, which is really nice. I also like how there’s a whole bunch of new shops going in, a theatre, and all sorts of stuff like that – all really close and really handy. And, it’s pretty close to parents house too, which is nice.
